They arrive, like little miracles, rays of garbage-laced sunshine, in my mailbox. Some of them come in little bags with apologetic notes from the post office, who don't understand that this postcard art is MEANT to look tattered, shattered, as if it really mattered.
Dan Caven walks around. He picks up forgotten stuff and gives it meaning again. He adds to it acrylic or oil paint, elmer's glue, spraypaint, markers, whatever. He affixes stamps. And the results come in the mail!
Dan lives in San Rafael and works/studies at The Crucible in Oakland. Sometimes you can see his illuminated gas sculptures (Neon and other nobles) in art shows, galleries, and private collections. He is Foo, Waela, Art League. And a really nice guy. He also creates art parties here and there, and facilitates awesome collage jams with developmentally disabled adults at the Cedars of Marin Victory Center. www.dancaven.com.
